This is a thread for making CAD models from IOS (Intra-Oral-Scanners)

To start with, here are the special instructions for getting nerdy with the software module.

(For use with the exocad Add-On "Model-Creator" software!)

Of course, this software is used to prepare scan-data for use in CAD from an intra-oral scan.
Clean up garbage, mark margin, trim the die, etc....

Then, someone can choose to make 3d-printed models, CNC models, or maybe no models at all!??

Thanks for the upload Scott...soon to be exocad user here :) After almost five years with peeshape I'm amazed by the amount of info given out by Exo on the control scripts...there was absolutely nothing on the other side...took me forever to figure out how things work...

Yes, you are certianly One who would be able to modify the software if you had the tools and knowledge.

I will be happy to provide!

Anyone taking itero i/o scans and importing them directly into Exocad and printing their own models?

If you're an upper tier iTero lab, you can elect to get the stl files without milled models from Cadent.
I don't see why you couldn't print your own from the stl files.

I'm not sure what 'upper tier itero lab' is, but the doc sends the .stl itero files, we import exocad, use model creator and send out for printing. I know it takes Cadent right out of the picture, but I'm not paying that ridiculous software price and have to send to them to mill their crappy models when it's much more accurate to print in my opinion. I was curious if anyone else was using the Exocad model creator this way?

Ask Scott to give it a try. You can attach stl files directly to the forum posts.

Thanks, Scott, for providing this information. Before this, I had no clue what Model Creator was- or how to use it. Learning all I can before purchasing software.

I'm not sure what exocad model creator is? Is that like the Fraunhofer model editor supplied by Amann Girrbach? If not where to get it?

Not familiar with A.G. branded exo, but model creator is an add on module for Exocad.

There is no tool for text insertion that I am aware of, maybe by editing the xml files. It can he done in other software and then save text as stl file, merge and import into model creator.

Thank You very much for your reply buddy..
I seen models that have the patient name on them. I'm almost sure that is possible on exocad. I just cant find it :(

One way to do it would be to add text characters in stl format to the attachments folder in modelcreator:
    D:\exocad-DentalCAD-64bit-2015-07-16\DentalCADApp\library\modelcreator\attachments
But this would probably take a long time to add for each patient. You can do it with other software .

    add text to model.png

yea that's a good way to do it... I went to the LabDay and this girl did it and I saw she pulled that option from the wizard..

    Its kind a odd Lol

Thank you for your help my friend, really means a lot to me. Have a bless day.

We just use an external software (rhino I believe). If there is a way to do it in exocad, I will find out. Give me 24hrs, I am swamped today.
